Learning Dispositions
Learning dispositions are positive behaviours and attitudes which are important to promote the joy of life-long learning.
What are the 6 Learning Dispositions?
The NEL Framework identifies the following six learning dispositions, encapsulated in the acronym, PRAISE:

Why are Learning Dispositions important?
Fostering learning dispositions help children to be self-directed learners who experience the joy of learning.
How can you foster learning dispositions in children?
When developing meaningful learning experiences to foster the PRAISE dispositions, you should consider engaging children's affect (HEART) and intellect (HEAD) to enable them to ultimately demonstrate the disposition in their actions (HAND). Here are some considerations for teachers:
Introduce the disposition
Explicitly introduce the disposition by name and explain its meaning. Use rhymes, slogans, songs, and posters to establish a common language and understanding of the disposition.
Use authentic situations
Provide a variety of authentic and meaningful situations where children can recognize how the learning disposition is demonstrated in words and actions. Use examples from picture books, videos, or real-life personalities to illustrate the disposition.
Model appropriate behaviours and language
Highlight the learning dispositions intentionally and consistently through your words and actions during your daily interactions with the children.
Provide opportunities for practice
Encourage children to value the learning disposition by explaining its importance and prompting them to reflect on how practicing it will help them learn or perform better. Provide opportunities for them to adopt and exhibit the learning disposition in various situations.
By considering these factors, teachers can effectively nurture the PRAISE dispositions in children, fostering a holistic approach to character development and learning.
