Respect is one of the four values identified in the Nurturing Early Learners Framework.

How is respect defined?
Here is a child-friendly definition of the value, respect which teachers can use:
Being respectful means that you act and speak politely with everyone, no matter who they are or where they come from. You know that others have their own ideas and feelings, and you are willing to listen to what they have to say. You are also thankful for the help that others have given you.
Why is respect important?
Being respectful helps children to recognise the intrinsic worth of all people, and appreciate and celebrate the diversity of our multi-racial and multi-cultural society.
How might children demonstrate respect?
Here are some examples of how children might demonstrate respect through their actions, speech and behaviour:
Greeting the teachers, staff and visitors to the centre
Listening attentively to whomever is speaking
Speaking politely by using “please” and “thank you”
