How is responsibility defined?
Here is a child-friendly definition of the value, responsibility, which teachers can use:
Being responsible means that you try your best to do what you are supposed to. You accept the results of your actions and you do not make excuses or blame others when things go wrong.
Why is responsibility important?
Being responsible helps children to be aware of their role in the community. They also learn to be dependable in their contributions to their group, class, centre, family and community.
How might children demonstrate responsibility?
Here are some examples of how children might demonstrate responsibility through their actions, speech and behaviour:
Putting toys or books away after using them
Helping the teachers to collect and return materials after an activity
Returning used cups and plates after snack time
